Enhancing Education through Technology
WHAT IS “EETT”?
PPEP TEC High School was awarded money from a federal technology grant named “Enhancing Education through Technology” in both 2004-05 and 2005-06. The goal of this grant is to help our students learn more effectively.
The grant helps students to do better in school by training teachers to use technology in engaging lessons. Teachers work in professional learning teams to investigate good approaches to lesson-making, then they try out their plans in the classroom. We have seen that when teachers work together to discover the best ways to help students learn, students benefit. Two years of using this grant have shown that our students really do benefit.
EETT FOR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
Over these past two years, EETT projects have created some great learning tools:
- PPEP TEC High School now has an Intranet. This in-house network provides students with curriculum, information on college and scholarships, and ways to communicate
- Inspiration software, a critical thinking tool, has been worked into all of our Lanugage Arts lessons and many of our Social Studies lessons www.inspiration.com
- English Language Learners at PTHS regularly use audiovisual, interactive programs to boost their scores, www.englishlearning.com, www.eslcafe.com
- PTHS teachers now help students build Internet search skills for mastery in Social Studies, Science, and Health.
- PTHS students prepare for the world of work in our School-to-Career courses with DVD’s and real-life technology practice. www.mediakids.com or ASSET www.asset.asu.edu, career pages
- Students and families can check out The Rock, our student newspaper, on our Intranet and our website
- Families can get in touch with each of our school sites via email from our website, or find addresses or phone numbers.
Educational Technology Team to Research Geometer’s Sketchpad
This year a team of PPEP TEC teachers are researching and studying how to integrate innovative mathematics software into the math curriculum. Through the Enhancing Education through Technology Grant (EETT), teachers are working to enhance the Math curriculum by using technology.
The teachers will complete their research and designed lessons with Geometer’s Sketchpad by January 2007. Introduction and implementation of the new lessons will be throughout the second semester, giving students a chance to learn more about the program. Parents will have a chance to learn more about Geometer’s Sketchpad during Technology Open Houses in the Spring.
The ED Tech Team members are: Andrew Greif (Douglas); Gabriel Hugues (San Luis); Stephanie Montes (Willcox); and Hector Romero (San Luis). Coaching the team is Doug Davidson, Math and Science Curriculum Coordinator for PPEP TEC High School.
